A backlog of Bugs

Last week we went to the park with our friend and found a lot of bugs!

Ragged Red Admiral

This red admiral is looking a little ragged. 

If you look really closely you can see the rolled up tongue.

Stinky Sunday

This might be a brown marmorated stink bug, but I am not sure.

Bumpy Bug

I found this bug when I sat down on a bench. Look at how long the antenna are!

I am not sure what this bug is, but he is kind of bumpy!

Fly Friday

We saw lots of flies the other day. Mom said Uncle S would like this one because it looks like a Metallica fly or something.

Look at all the little hairs on this fly!

This one kind of looks like a zebra!

Ebony Jewel Wings

Ebony jewel wings seem to be popular wherever we go!

Snipe Fly

We went on a bug hunt with our friend Rissy earlier this week. We found ants, mosquitoes, spittle bugs, jewel wings, and a snipe fly!

Dragons

Dragonflies and their relatives are really cool, but they usually fly around so fast! We finally saw some at the park that decided to sit and stay still for a second!

This is a blue-tipped dancer. All of the rest are ebony jewel wings. 

Hawk Moth

Mommy got some caterpillars at the store to see if we could raise them to grow into moths for food for the mantis brothers.

But when they grew up they were a lot bigger than the mantis! They were very soft and fluffy though!

Here is a picture my friend Jace sent in. it's a tick his mommy found. Yuck!

Swallowtail Sunday

This swallowtail was hiding way up high in a tree.

Aren't they just some of the prettiest bugs?

Carrion Beetle

Mom said this is a carrion beetle.

We saw it on the beach!

This is probably a very tiny fly. It was hanging out on a flower.

Oh my, a fly!

Flies are often overlooked, but they have pretty cool eyes.

Red Admiral

Last week we saw some red admiral butterflies, today we got up close to a really shy one!

Diurnal Firefly

These guys are diurnal fireflies. 

They don't glow like other fireflies and they like dead logs.

This beetle is one of the prettiest we have seen!

It is so shiny!

Butterfly Friday!

We got to see a few butterflies at the park.

Some of them even paused for just a moment so we could try to take a picture. 

This butterfly looks like it is missing a little bit of their wing. It didn't slow it down any!

Carpenter Ant

Aunt Dani really doesn't like ants, but this carpenter aunt is actually kind of pretty.

Spider!

We saw this spider hanging around on the bridge.

Paper Wasp

This paper wasp was taking a break right outside my door!

Cats and Butterflies

We saw a few butterflies this weekend, but this one was the first to slow down a little. The picture is blurry but at least you can see it!

When we were leaving the park a caterpillar floated down out of the sky and landed on mom!
