Mantis Week Glamour Shots

 The Ghost Mantis is supposed to look like a dead leaf. They like to sway back and forth. It looks cool, but makes the bugs hard to photograph.

Their antenna vibrate really quickly, so if you look at the picture above you can see a blur where they are moving.

Mantis Week - Who's Who

 Mommy says she thinks this is the girl mantis. She is more aggressive and her crown is thicker.

 

The boy is less aggressive and his crown is more crooked. There are supposed to be 6 segments on the female's body and 8 on the male's, but it is pretty hard to see.

It's time for an update on the birthday mantids. Both mantids have now molted, and if you look closely, they look a little different now.

  

Mom says she thinks the one on the left is a boy and the one on the right is a girl.

One of the ghost mantises molted the other day. Mommy said she thinks this one is a boy.

Library Mantis

Mom was at work when some people came in saying there was a mantis in the parking lot. She carefully moved the mantis into the bushes.

Miss Mantis

Mom found a praying mantis outside. It was missing an arm so we got some bugs to try and keep her alive. She died before the bugs dethawed. But we took some fun pictures!
